Masters is from the 80s, so of course they have a ninja!
Series: Masters of the Universe Masterverse - New Eternia
Title: Evil Ninja Warrior
Year: 2025

The demon king from the dimension of Noir silently searched the scattered remains of New Eternia for the Power of Grayskull so he may become an immortal force of evil.

Review: Quick reminder, the original Masters of the Universe toy line is from the 1980s and for all those who weren’t alive back then: in the 80s, ninjas were EVERYWHERE! If you got a dollar for every movie with “ninja” in the title somewhere, you’d probably get enough dough together to buy a few of those brand-new CD things.

So yeah, Masters of the Universe had a ninja as well and, in the tradition of bad guy names ending in “-or” (Skeletor, Grizzlor, Spikor, Stinkor, Keldor, etc.), they named him Ninjor. He came out near the end of the original toy line and remains one of the more obscure MotU characters. He doesn’t really have many in-media appearances under his belt. Ninjor debuted in the pack-in comic “The Search for Keldor”, where he was summoned by Skeletor to thwart the efforts of He-Man and his pals, and the line ended soon afterwards.

New Eternia Ninjor is an upscaled homage to the original figure, featuring a ton of detailing on his outfit and detachable harness. The original figure was mostly black, but New Eternia Ninjor nicely balances several different dark shades for a far more intricate look. He comes with all three of the weapons the original figure carried, a Katana sword, a pair of Nunchaku, and a bow. He can store the sword on his back and the Nunchaku have a holster on his belt. Very nice. Articulation is standard for the Masterverse series, meaning very good.

The original Ninjor figure had a human face covered by a cloth mask. New Eternia Ninjor instead has the non-removable ninja mask as it’s default face and comes with two masks. One is a red Oni mask, giving him a nice, demonic look. The other is a human face, strongly resembling that of the original figure, just a lot paler. Not sure if it’s really meant to be his true face here or just a mask resembling a human, but it works either way. My personal favorite is the Oni mask, though.

Bottom line: while the character portrayed here doesn’t really have that much in the way of history to it, it’s a very nice figure with lots of attention to detail. Plus, he’s a ninja! If you’re a kid of the 80s, you love ninjas, it’s that simple!
