Series: Masters of the Universe Masterverse - Revolution
Year: 2024
Prelude: Do I have a thing for mostly-naked Barbarian warriors? Only when they hail from a certain 1980s franchise that I loved as a kid. There are many He-Man figures out in the wild and quite a few have found their way into my collection, such as the Masterverse Revolution Battle Armor He-Man. Is there anything special about this figure when compared with the dozens of other He-Man figures out there? Let’s say go!
Review: Let us start with the He-Man figure itself, before we go into the two different armors that are included. It’s a blonde man in fur pants with fur boots, just like it should be. Articulation is very nice, including double knee and elbow joints, poseable feet, no restrictions, and he comes with two exchangeable sets of hands (closed fists and open ones for gripping his weapon). The head is patterned after He-Man as we saw him in the Netflix cartoon, a bit different than the classic look (especially the hair style), but still very much recognizable. He is a bit taller than Classics He-Man, but that is a general trend among the Masterverse figures, I believe.
One thing I noticed is that the gauntlet He-Man usually wears on his left arm is actually a removable piece this time, not a molded detail. I think this is the first He-Man figure (at least the first in my possession) where this is the case. Not really all that important, sure, but something I noticed. He-Man’s only weapon is his trademark battle ax. No Power Sword included this time (see below as to why).
Now let’s come to the two different chest armors He-Man comes with. One is the classic original He-Man chest armor, the crossed metal stripes with the big letter H in the middle. Nothing really new here. The other is the one giving this figure its name, the Battle Armor, a full chest plate which also has a big letter H in the middle, but covers quite a bit more of He-Man’s torso than the first one. It also covers part of his neck, thereby limiting his head movement a little bit. There are two exchangeable centerpieces for this armor, one with a big scratch and one pristine. No automatic gimmick here, though, you have to manually change out the centerpieces and you need to take the entire chest armor off to do it.
Bottom line: a nice He-Man figure, great articulation, two different armor options, very nice. The only downside to me is that the Battle Armor sits very tight and it takes quite a bit of force to get it off.
Remarks: In Netflix‘ Revolution series, He-Man gave his Power Sword to Gwildor and Orko, in order to use its magic to negate the Horde’s techno virus. Armed only with his battle axe and a new armor given to him by the new Man-at-Arms, Andra, he attacked Snake Mountain (quite successfully, too).
Overall I must say that this He-Man figure isn’t really showing us anything new (except a removable left arm gauntlet, probably), but it’s a nice package overall and you basically get classic look He-Man and Battle Armor He-Man in one. Not a must-have, but pretty nice.
