Prelude: Drift Origin Mode is a repaint with a new head of Robots in Disguise Drift, whom I have already reviewed. So this review here will focus mainly on the differences.
Robot Mode: The body remains the same, but it has gotten a completely new paintjob and a new head, both clearly paying homage to Generations Drift, the first Drift toy. Drift is now mostly white with black, red, and yellow detailing. The new head lacks the Samurai look of the Robots in Disguise version and instead adheres closely to the noggin’ of the original Drift toy. Suffice to say Drift looks fabulous in this new ‘do and almost like a completely different figure than the RID one. Very nicely done.
Alternate Mode: Unsurprisingly Drift’s car mode is now also mostly white with red, black, and yellow details. A close match to Generations Drift down to the Japanese characters on the side doors, the car looks sleek, sexy, and fast. Again, very nicely done.
Remarks: Since his first appearance in the IDW comics Drift has gone through quite a number of colors. He started white, turned red, turned blue, turned orange, and now he’s back to being white again in a homage to the first one. Takara redid what I consider the best RID Warrior-class mold so far in this tribute paintjob and did a fabulous job of it. Drift Origin Mode comes in a two-pack, but he’s worth the price of the package all by himself in my opinion.
