Series: War for Cybertron: Kingdom Golden Disk Collection
Allegiance: Maximal
Categories: Voyager
Year: 2022

Prelude: As part of the Golden Disc Collection, an alternate universe version of Kingdom Tigatron was mutated by the Vok’s quantum surge into a far more aggressive and feral version of himself. Meaning he got a new head and a new paintjob, of course. So is Mutant Tigatron worth it or do you buy him just to get the box that, together with the other three boxes in the Golden Disc Collection, forms a large golden disc? Let’s say go!

Robot Mode: Seeing as Mutant Tigatron is ‘only’ a repaint with a new head, this review will focus on the differences to the first Kingdom Tigatron figure. Mutant Tigatron replaces the first Tigatron’s white color with orange, and where Tigatron was turquoise, Mutant T wears a darker petrol green. And that’s pretty much it in terms of differences. Apart, of course, from the head. Mutant Tigatron does not have the familiar Tigatron’s head from the TV series, but rather the insectoid mutant head from the original figure (more on that see below). The head is pretty well sculpted. A few more colored highlights would have been nice (those teeth/spikes for example), but overall it looks pretty cool.

And, yeah, that’s it in terms of differences. Everything else is the exact same figure as Kingdom Tigatron.

Alternate Mode: Tigatron still transforms into a tiger, naturally, and the only difference here is the paintjob. Instead of a snow tiger you now have a ‘normal’ tiger with the orange coat and black stripes. The weapon still cannot be stored properly. So basically still the exact same beast mode, just of a different coloring.

Remarks: The original artwork for Beast Wars Tigatron, including the picture on his biocard, depicted him with his mutant insect head instead of the more humanoid one he sported in the TV series. Of course the original figure had the mutant head gimmick, allowing it to switch between humanoid and insectoid face at will. The new Kingdom Tigatron figure forewent that gimmick, giving us ‘only’ the TV series face. Now, though, we have another figure that comes with the insect face.

Mutant Tigatron was part of the Amazon-exclusive Golden Disc collection, one of four sets where the boxes together formed one huge golden disc. The figure, though, is really just a simple repaint of Tigatron, merely with a different head. You probably don’t really need it unless you are, like me, a fan of the old mutant head gimmick or just a major Beast Wars enthusiast in general (or want the box). If you are, though, he’s pretty great.
