With the rediscovery of the lost colony worlds and the reunification of the Transformers race after millions of years, Optimus Prime has become the leader of far more people than he ever could have imagined. Cybertron Primus has been reactivated, the Planet Keys returned to their rightful place on Cybertron, and Galvatron and his Decepticons all but defeated. It is time, he thinks, for a new golden era of peace in the galaxy, and he has ordered the construction of a fleet of starships so that the Autobots might explore the galaxy around them, bringing peace and justice wherever they go. While many of the Autobot soldiers who fought with him are choosing to remove their weapons systems now that the war is over, Optimus Prime has decided to keep his, not because he hopes war will once again come, but as a reminder of what once was. He hopes to serve as a reminder to all those who would bring violence and tyranny to the universe that there are mighty warriors who will stand against them always.
Prelude: Our worlds are in danger. To save them and the galaxy we must review one of the greatest Transformers toys of all time before the Decepticons can use it for evil. It is our mission! Fuchs Geronimo! Gave me the figure! Thank you! Optimus Prime! Transform and let’s say Go!
Remarks: Seeing as I have already written reviews for Cybertron Optimus Prime and Galaxy Force Galaxy Convoy, this review here will focus on the differences only. Cybertron Galaxy Force Optimus Prime (not to be confused with Galaxy Force Galaxy Convoy) is a straight up repaint with no structural changes. Optimus’ red parts are now a slightly darker red and the dark blue has been swapped for black. Also, some of the grey parts of the original figure are also black now. His handgun is also red now, the missiles are black, and there is some gold on the shin blasters. He also has all four planet symbols on his shoulder pads.
That’s pretty much it in terms of changes. The figure retains all of Galaxy Convoy’s gimmicks, of course, including the combinations and the Super Mode. So it really boils down to whether or not you like the new colors. Personally I like them, though I do prefer the original red and blue. My one major gripe: except for eyes, the face is all-black, which kind of obscures the facial features a bit. Some gold or silver highlights would have worked wonders here, I think. Otherwise, though, nothing to complain about.
Black and red Optimus Prime repaints are nothing unusual today, but GF Optimus Prime might actually be the first one, not sure. Anyway, the figure itself is – to me – one of the greatest Transformers toys ever made with play value right through the roof. Every Transformers fan should own at least one iteration of this excellent figure and the GF version, which was exclusive to Hasbro, is certainly a possibility. Recommended if you don’t already own any of the blue and red versions and even if you do, maybe you’ll enjoy the black and red paintjob as well.
