Power of the Primes Blot

Robot Mode: Blot is a heavy retool of Rippersnapper, so the basic setup of the figure is more or less identical. He makes an excellent generic Decepticon soldier, too, seeing as his robot mode doesn’t immediately convey what he transforms into, none of this “monster”-parts are easily visible. None of which really matters, though, as Blot simply looks cool. The black and purple coloring easily marks him as a Decepticon, the robot is nicely articulated and detailed, and it just looks very good overall.

Speaking of details, Blot has quite a few of them. He comes with claws on his arms, which always looks pretty cool, and I really like his face sculpt, which implies that he wears a really big and bushy moustache and a chin beard, too. He is also one of the few figures that doesn’t look wildly misshapen when wearing the combiner fists as chest armor. Whether or not you put a Prime Master into it is, of course, entirely up to you. It still looks better, though, when he uses it as an additional weapon along with his rifle.

Overall Blot is simply a superbly done Deluxe-class robot. No complaints at all, I really like him.

Alternate Mode: Much like his G1 predecessor did, Blot transforms into … yeah, what exactly is he? A kind of meched-out warrior ogre? A demonic ape? I’m really not sure, but it doesn’t change the fact that he looks really cool in this mode, too. Oh, and fun side note: he is barely any bigger than G1 Blot in this mode, despite being a much larger robot.

The ogre (let’s call it that for simplicity’s sake) comes with a kind-of stock for attaching Blot’s rifle to in this mode and additionally you can attach the combiner fist / chest armor as a kind of rucksack on top of his hump, which looks pretty good. The robot fists flip in to turn the middle of his three claws into an opposable thumb (kind of) and while the short ogre legs aren’t really all that posable, they do nicely, too. Overall nicely done, easily one of the best “monster”-modes I’ve seen.

Combiner Mode: Blot becomes an arm or a leg of the Abominus combiner and is compatible with pretty much every torso-robot from Combiner Wars and Power of the Primes, too. More on Abominus once I’ve finished reviewing the individual team members.

Remarks: Like with the rest of the Terrorcons, there isn’t really much to Blot in the way of character development or media presence apart from being part of his team and Abominus. But while he will never be character of the year, I believe, Blot is currently in the running for the Transformers Hall of Fame Toy of the Year 2018. And while I’m still irked that Battletrap was disqualified for actually being two toys instead of one, I sincerely hope Blot succeeds. He deserves it.

Overall I must say that Blot and Rippersnapper are in a stiff competition for my favorite Terrorcon. Given that they are using the same base mold, that’s hardly surprising. Blot is a superb Deluxe-class figure for everyone who doesn’t mind that he transforms into a robot monster instead of a vehicle and the fact that you need him to complete Abominus is almost inconsequential. Go out and buy him now!
