Waspinator now possessed by different Seeker? Why universe hate Waspinator?
Series: Buzzworthy Bumblebee
Allegiance: Predacon
Categories: Deluxe
Year: 2022

Prelude: May we assume that, in some alternate universe or other, poor Waspinator got possessed by a different Seeker’s ghost? Not Starscream, but Skywarp? If so, that would explain this repaint here, Waspinator all dressed up in Skywarp’s colors. Or maybe Skywarp survived and was reformatted for Beast Wars? We may never know, but here we have Buzzworthy Bumblebee Skywasp. Let’s go!

Differences: Skywasp is a repaint of Kingdom Waspinator, whom I reviewed just a few months ago, so look there for the full low-down on this figure. Done? Good, then let’s continue here with the differences.

Skywasp has received Skywarp’s original color scheme, mostly black with purple, plus some added gold for good measure. He looks pretty good in these colors, too. Of course it’s not the first time we’ve gotten a Waspinator repainted in these colors. Remember Botcon Parasite? Pretty much the same layout, just a slightly bluer shade of purple and a different Waspinator figure as a base. Otherwise, more or less the same.

Skywasp is a straight-up repaint, but comes with an additional head you can switch out for the standard Waspinator noggin’. The head is based on the non-Mutant head of the original Beast Wars Waspinator figure (the one used for Buzzsaw), just in purple instead of green.

And that’s pretty much it, really. Same good figure, just repainted in Skywarp colors and with an additional head harkening back to the early days of Beast Wars.

Remarks: We have seen this particular color variant of Waspinator twice in fiction. Once as Parasite in the 2015 Botcon comic “Cybertron’s Most Wanted”, and second in a short cameo in the Legacy VS500 Collection Special Comic, where he sat in the crowd watching the latest race. Whether the latter is truly meant to be Skywarp reformatted in a new body, Waspinator possessed by the ghost of Skywarp, or simply a random Predacon is anyone’s guess.

Skywasp was available as part of the 2022 Creatures Collide 4-pack, a Target-exclusive in the US. I recently got the opportunity to buy him without the other three, which I didn’t much care for. So while I still think that the Thrilling 30 Waspinator toy is the superior version of the character, I do like the Skywarp-color variant very much and got this one for a good price, so he was worth it. Not a must-have, but nice for fans of Beast Wars and Transformers looking good in black and purple.
