He's the solid muscle of the team. Not much brain but tons of brute force. His only thought is to wipe the Autobots from the universe. As a plane, the undercarriage radar targeting system doubles as a powerful weapon. As a robot, he uses it to mow down his sworn enemies.

Robot Mode: Terradive is a rather typical Transformer for his time in that he is a rather small and barely articulated robot. He can bend his arms at the elbows and do the split (a transformation requirement) and that’s pretty much it. He’s mostly black with a golden head and some translucent green highlights. Not a bad look, but rather plain. I like his design with the big shoulder pieces, but overall this robot doesn’t really have a lot going for it. Average for his time at best.

Alternate Mode: Terradive transforms into a Ling-Temco-Vought A-7E Corsair II airplane. In this mode Terradive actually looks more detailed than in robot mode. White stripes break up the black paintjob and stickers on the wings and rear fin add some color. A working landing gear is included (even though the rear wheels are only sculpted) and the plane as a whole doesn’t look half-bad. Not an amazing jet mode by any measure, but surprisingly nice given the time.

Missing Parts: I’m missing Terradive’s underbelly radar/gun thing. The gun he carries in the pictures hails from KRE-O Bombshell.

Remarks: Terradive is one of those figures where it’s highly debatable whether he’s G1 or G2. He was first released in Europe in 1993, already carrying the G2 style faction symbols, but in a packaging lacking the G2 logo. Later that same year he was released in the US in G2-style packaging and in early 1994 he was re-released in Europe, also in G2-style packaging. The figure never changed, just the card. So as this is a loose figure here, I cannot tell you which version of Terradive this is and it doesn’t really make much of a difference anyway.

Overall Terradive is not a spectacular Transformer by any definition. His release history is somewhat interesting, but apart from a few cameos in some comics he has zero media presence and doesn’t offer that much play value, either. Got him as part of a lot, wouldn’t have bothered otherwise. Overall not a bad Transformer, but not a particularly good one, either.
