If there's a negative angle to be found in any situation, Gears will find it. It's not that he's a miserable guy, or even that he's unhappy on Earth. He just really likes complaining. Nothing makes him happier than having something to gripe about. The other Autobots actually find his complaining funny, rather than annoying, which is part of the reason he keeps on doing it.

Remarks: Gears is a repaint of Stockade from the first Movie line, so look there for the full review. Just some words on the differences here. There haven't been any mold changes, so Gears only differs from Stockade in color. But that is quite a difference, let me tell you. Stockade's primarily black paint job looks cool, but it swallows up a lot of the superb detailing this mold possesses. In fact, I've noticed a lot of stuff on Gears that I completly missed on Stockade. Check out the silver areas on his torso and you'll know what I mean. There is a whole lot to see there. Also, Stockade was black in both robot and vehicle mode. Gears, on the other hand, is mainly silver in vehicle mode, but displays blue, red, and some golden highlights in robot mode. Very nicely done, a beautiful paint job. Small side note: I like that they painted gears on his doors in vehicle mode. It's corny, but fun.

Gears here doesn't really resemble his G1 predecessor all that much, but for all their differences there is still a similar air about the two figures. Not sure how to explain it, but they fit together somehow. Gears was a member of the original G1 Autobot crew from the Ark and the grouch of the team. ROTF Gear's profile text pretty much describes the same character, so no changes there. He has yet to appear in any medium, but maybe we'll see him in the IDW comics one of these days. Whatever the case, though, Gears is a beauty. His paint job really brings out the best in an already good mold and to me he beats out Stockade by a long shot. Originally I only bought Gears here because I always buy something when I visit my favorite childhood toy store in Berlin, but Gears has turned out to be much more than mere nostalgia shopping. Recommended, even to people who already own Stockade.
