Prelude: If you know me at all, you know that I don’t particularly care for Transformers that don’t transform. There are some exceptions to every rule, though. Case in point, most of the Autobots from the Transformers One movie, as they genuinely could not transform until the end of the story. Plus, this one here, Transformers One Hound, was a gift from a friend. So buckle up, follow protocol, and let’s say go!
Robot Mode: All Blokees figures are model kits, meaning they come in parts and need assembly. Hound here is the so-called Galaxy Version size class, bigger than the Defenders, smaller than the Classics. The assembly is pretty easy if you follow the instruction sheets (a meta commentary on the movie, perhaps?) and once you’re done you have a Hound figure that is roughly Scout-Class (or very small Deluxe).
The resemblance to the character from the movie is near-perfect, no complaints here, and the figure is tremendously well-articulated, too. Ankle tilt, twisting wrists, turning head, you name it, he can do it. The figure cannot transform, of course. No Blokees figure can. But in this case, given that we are looking at Cog-less Hound, it’s entirely accurate to the character. Did I mention he looks great?
Hound comes with two different sets of hands (closed fists with 5mm holes and open hands) and carries a grey gun as a weapon. Also included is a base for the figure, as well as a disc-shaped cardboard image of Hound.
And yeah, that’s pretty much it. As mentioned above I am not a big fan of Transformers that don’t transform, but this figure here leaves no grounds for complaint. Excellent robot mode and the lack of transformation ability is canon. So two thumbs up for Blokees Hound.
Remarks: Transformers One saw most of the Autobots working as non-transforming miners in the depths of Cybertron, slaves in all but name. Eventually it was revealed that Sentinel Prime had removed all their transformation cogs at birth to create a willing worker class for himself. One revolution later, all Transformers now found themselves with cogs and the ability to transform. Hound did not have a big role in the movie, but was seen in the background several times. This figure here portrays his original cog-less look.
I escaped the Blokees craze for a long time, but then my buddy James sent me this figure here as a present. Still not going to turn into a full-scale Blokees collector, but I have to admit that these figures are pretty cool. Easy to assemble, very nicely detailed and articulated, and so fun that you almost forget their lack of transformation ability. So bottom line: Blokees are fun. Go and get some!
