Data is power.
Small compared to most other Transformers, Bumblebee more than makes up for it through his incredible bravery and willingness to go places larger robots won't. Capable of aerial and underwater missions, he is more versatile than many other Autobots. His eagerness to do his part leads him to go above and beyond the call of duty, often placing him in grave danger. It is a testament to his skill that he has never been captured.

Robot Mode: Bumblee looks quite good in robot mode, no doubt about it. The look is recognisable, the posability is good, the detailling leaves no room for complaint. Just two little things that bug me: One is that, thanks to the windshield as a lower body, you can see right through Bumblebee. The second is his being weaponless. Couldn't they have given him one tiny handgun at least? As it is Bumblebee's only equipment is a rocket back he can strap onto his shoulders. The pack looks pretty good and is a nice gimmick, but doesn't make up for the lack of a weapon. Still, a good robot mode.

Alternate Mode: It's not a Volkswagen Beetle! Not even a New Beetle! What are they thinking? What, damn it? Okay, rant over. Apart from the fact that it's the wrong model, the car isn't bad at all. The detailing is good (though it could be better) and you have a fun feature that the rocket pack from the robot mode transforms into a jetski on a hanger. Nicely done. Still, why not a Beetle? Why, damn it?

Remarks: It's been a while since we saw a Bumblebee. Once the most beloved of all Transformers, the cute little VW Beetle was the one kids were supposed to relate to in the first two seasons of the G1 cartoon, a child-like Autobot, small but brave. Bumblebee faded into the background come Season 3 and was never heard from again afterwards. But he is still beloved and with his upcoming appearance in the Transformers live action movie it is no surprise that he was reissued as part of the Classics line. Bumblebee is a good figure, not great, but definitely one to appeal to nostalgic G1 fans such as myself. Now if only they'd have given him a weapon and made him a VW Beetle...
