Keep your optical sensors to yourself!
Profoundly unlucky and saddled with an inferiority complex, Breakdown's all consuming paranoia runs so rampant that it often distracts him and causes accidents, becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. He takes out his frustrations on others to cover for his own insecurities. His bow fires sonic disruptor arrows that scramble mechanical circuits.
Prelude: Breakdown is a repaint, along with a new head, of Animated Rodimus Prime, so this review here will focus on the differences between the two figures.
Robot Mode: Breakdown is, of course, identical to Rodimus except for the colors and the new head. Let’s look at the latter first. The new head features a burgundy-colored face inside a nicely sculpted blue helmet. The resemblance to the (very tiny) head of G1 Breakdown isn’t exactly breathtaking, but it’s there. Personally I like that new head sculpt very much, it looks very nice.
The new paint job tries to stay as true to the G1 original as the different transformations involved allow. The lower body is a near 1:1 match with blue lower legs and beige thighs. The upper body is less faithful, but here, too, the dominant colors are blue and beige with some more burgundy thrown in. The resemblance is stronger in car mode, but overall I’m very surprised how good the blue-beige combination looks on the robot, so no complaints.
Finally Breakdown has the same weapon as Rodimus, of course, a kind of energy bow (and yes, he can hold it backwards, too, like he did in the comic). Posability is the same as well, of course, and there’s not a whole lot more I can say here except: a great repaint with a great new head sculpt of a great robot. No complaints at all.
Alternate Mode: G1 Breakdown transformed into a Lamborghini Countach, while Animated Rodimus transforms into some kind of futuristic sports car. Close enough. With the beige color and blue trim, as well as that burgundy stripe on the hood, the car does a pretty good job of paying homage to the original.
Nothing else that’s new to write here. The car still looks great and the energy bow can be mounted on top of it. So bottom line: a great vehicle mode, no complaints.
Remarks: Breakdown was the unluckiest among the Stunticons in the 2011 Botcon comic book. He was the only one who got hit when Cheetor fired wildly on the Stunticons, he shot himself in the face with his own bow (by virtue of holding it backwards), and finally ended up in the same prison they were supposed to free Megatron from. Not a good day for the most paranoid Decepticon of them all.
The Rodimus figure was an excellent figure to begin with, the new head mold looks great, and the paint job is very nice and a great homage to the original. So really, nothing worth complaining here. A great figure.
