Given that most of the 1980s toylines featured no more than one woman on any given team (if that), the original Teela toy had to pull double duty as both Teela, Captain of the Eternian Guard, and the Goddess, who later became the Sorceress. By the time the Filmation cartoon came around, though, the two characters had been well and truly separated and the Sorceress got her own toy. So for the MotU Origins Cartoon Collection, we get a Teela figure that is all Teela, no hint of the Goddess, no snake staff, no snake helmet, just Teela.
The likeness to the cartoon character is fabulous, no denying that. Everything from the hair style to the boots is perfectly Filmation Teela, including her facial expression, which hovers somewhere between amused and pissed off. Like all Origins figures, Teela's articulation has been vastly improved when compared to the original 1980s toys. She comes with the same shield the original Teela figure had, but instead of a snake staff she has the sword she usually carried in the Filmation cartoon.
A little extra is also included, the training drone that we saw Teela spar with in the Filmation cartoon. Which... yeah, I wouldn't have needed that, to be honest. Not a fan of collectors toys that include some thing we saw in one episode for about five seconds 40 years ago. But I know quite a few people enjoy seeing a thing we saw in one episode for about five seconds 40 years ago, so that's okay. Me, I shall put the thing we saw in one episode for about five seconds 40 years ago into my box of parts and forget about it.
Bottom line: if you like Teela as she was shown in the Filmation cartoon, then this is the toy for you.
