That cushion is made from Beast-Man shedding all over Snake Mountain!
Series: Masters of the Universe New Eternia
Year: 2024

Prelude: If you want to be a proper evil overlord, you need a proper throne to give out your evil commands from, have your victims cower in front of, and rest on between fights with the do-gooding hero. You will find few better at this than Skeletor, who rules from his bone throne in Snake Mountain. Now this throne, along with Skeletor himself, is available as a set in the New Eternia line. Let’s say go!

Skeletor: This set consists of a separately packaged Skeletor figure along with the Bone Throne. Let’s look at Skeletor first. The figure itself is Skeletor as he has looked for over 40 years now, wearing his classic outfit and carrying his signature Ram Staff. The skull face is very nicely detailed, the lower jaw can open, and the hood can be pulled back (but you need to unplug the head to do it). There are some golden highlights on the shins and chest harness, but overall this is Skeletor as we know and love him.

The figure is in the old Classics scale, more or less the same size as the Marvel Legends figures, bigger than the MotU vintage or Origins figures. Articulation is very good. Skeletor also comes with a cape, attached to an additional chest piece, which he can simply drape over his shoulders. Skeletor also comes with a second staff, the snake staff usually carried by Teela or the Goddess. No idea if there is a fictional reason for that, to be honest.

Bottom line: a very nice Skeletor figure. Nothing really new except the articulated jaw and pull-back hood, but I do have a thing for Skeletor figures, so I’m happy with it.

Throne: The main selling point of this set is, of course, the throne. Sculpted to resemble Skeletor’s signature Snake Mountain throne from the Filmation cartoon, it does an excellent job of bringing the cartoon seat to life. It comes with a brown furry seat cushion (I am sure Skeletor has threatened Beast Man more than once to replace it with an orange one) and the skull head on top is on a ball joint, so it can look around and up and down.

The throne sits on a two-step pedestal with two fire urns on the side and two staff holders in the back. There is a button to the left of the throne (when looking at it from the front) and pressing it makes the fires light up. You can cycle through three colors (blue, green, and red) and pressing it continuously for a few seconds makes them turn off again. The battery compartment is on the bottom of the pedestal.

Finally, the entire throne and pedestal can sit on top of the cardboard box the throne came in, giving it additional height, and there is a cardboard backdrop included, too. Side note: the early promo pictures showed the backdrop being taller than the throne, but the actual backdrop is slightly shorter than the throne. Not sure why that was changed, to be honest.

Bottom line: a very nice throne that can sit not just Skeletor, but just about every action figure of compatible scale (see pictures 18 through 27 for some examples). Now we just need the table with the orb in the middle.

Remarks: Despite being but a casual Masters of the Universe collector these days, it always seems to be Skeletor figures finding their way into my collection. This set here was a Christmas gift from my beloved wife and I very much enjoyed receiving it. Not sure I’d have bought it myself (probably not), but getting it as a gift was very welcome.

So bottom line: a great gift set for Skeletor collectors. Whether or not it’s worth buying at full price is something you need to decide for yourself.
