Series: Masters of the Universe Classics
Real Name: Adam of the House of Randor
Title: Most Powerful Man in the Universe
Year: 2009
A direct descendent of the legendary King Grayskull, Prince Adam of Eternia was chosen to protect his ancestor's Power Sword from evil. At first he used a techno vest with a built-in force field to fight evil, but Adam has since learned to combine both halves of the Power Sword, using it to channel the energy of the Elders and become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe! He guards the safety of all Eternia along side the heroic Masters of the Universe.
Review: For someone who started out as a barbarien / caveman from some tribe in a post-apocalyptic world, He-Man sure came a long way. He became a prince, he went to space, traveled through time, became a king, and also a world-wide success in terms of toy sales. Back in 2009, though, He-Man and the whole Masters of the Universe thing seemed to be over. The 200X reboot had been welcomed by old-school fans, but failed to garner the attention of new ones. So when Mattel decided to give the old franchise one more go, they went full-on collector-oriented with the Classics line.
Enter a new He-Man figure, bigger than all the ones who came before him, more detailed, better articulated, and just plain-cool. Much like the Transformers from those days, the goal wasn't to faithfully recreate the look from the old cartoon, but rather to update the classic look with a more modern design. Overall I'd call this a success, though I have to ask what this He-Man here went through that gave him such bags under his eyes. Apart from that, though, he is cool. He's got the chest harness, the shield, the ax, the power sword, everything. Just a very cool He-Man figure for the adult collector. What more can you want?
